Who is fastest in the Intrust Super Cup?

What’s better than a speedy winger in full flight tearing down the sideline on their way to scoring a try?

Seeing them cut down before the tryline by an amazing chase - that's what.

This past weekend in both the NRL and the Intrust Super Cup, rugby league fans were treated to two amazing try-saving tackles which showed players they should never give up on a chase.

TOP FIVE: Intrust Super Cup Round 22

The first came on Saturday night when former Ipswich Jets, and now Mackay Cutters, speedster Carlin Anderson came across in cover defence to latch onto "kangaroo catcher" Michael Purcell and bring him down before the tryline (see video above).

The second came in the NRL in the Melbourne Storm v Gold Coast Titans match when Ipswich junior Phil Sami showed great heart to chase down “The Foxx” Josh Addo-Carr.

The Titans winger got to his man, forcing him to cough up the ball which denied him his second try of the match.

Outstanding chase by Phillip Sami to run down Addo-Carr

Addo-Carr has been unofficially hailed as the NRL’s fastest player thanks to the Telstra Tracker data which recorded him at a high speed of 38.5 km/hr while in action for Melbourne in their Round 5 clash with North Queensland.

There have been calls by fans to run a 100-metre dash on NRL grand final day featuring players not involved in the main game - and it got me thinking, who has made the best use of their speed in Cup?

Short of lining them up on an athletics track and pulling the trigger on the starter's gun, I have had some fun shortlisting two speedsters from each club, as well as the match officials.

Who do you think has the most speed to burn? 🔥

Rules are:

  • It’s a 100-metre race, which rules out some of the rampaging props who are quick off the mark
  • Players have ideally played most of their matches this season in the Intrust Super Cup (not NRL or Hastings Deering Colts)
