Brisbane's Corey Oates and Melbourne's Brandon Smith.

Marquee Brisbane winger Corey Oates expects to ink a new deal with the club imminently.

Having only committed to the Broncos on a one-year contract last December, the Queensland Origin flyer remains unsigned for 2020.

However, he anticipates the uncertainty about his playing future will be over shortly.

"I'm pretty sure I'm close to being done [re-signing with Brisbane], so hopefully soon," Oates told NRL.com.

Having already retained the likes of Matt Lodge, Tevita Pangai jnr and Jake Turpin, securing Oates would set the Broncos up well for the future.

Oates represented the club at the NRL Fan Fest on Thursday, rocking a Broncos shirt and happily posing for pictures with supporters at Sydney's Martin Place.

Being approached by keen fans is something the 24-year-old has learned to appreciate.

"You have to; it's a part of the job and all that sort of stuff," Oates said.

"The more times you get used to it and the more times you do it, you start to enjoy it a bit more.

"You realise that giving back a little bit means a lot to people. You don't complain about coming to these sorts of things.

"It's great. I think everyone's enjoying [Fan Fest] and hopefully they get good feedback from it."

While the pain of a first-week finals exit lingers, Oates is looking forward to getting away from football briefly and recharging ahead of a new campaign.

"It's always a long season. You always want to go all the way but when it all comes to an end, I suppose you've got to enjoy the holidays," Oates said.

"You've got to look after your body, relax and try to switch off. Then you're straight back into it."
