1948

The first Test between Australia and Great Britain at Headingley is one for the true believers. Twelve tries are scored in the Test, won 23-21 by the home side. Historian Robert Gate describes the Test as "an extravaganza of entertainment, a game which broke the mould as far as Test football was concerned."

1988

Australia defeat New Zealand 25-12 in the final of the World Cup in front of 47,000 fans at Eden Park, Auckland. Allan Langers scores twice, with Gavin Miller and Dale Shearer also crossing.

1999

Manly members vote to form a joint venture with North Sydney. The Northern Eagles were born. The club finished ninth, 10th and eighth in three seasons before the return of Manly as a sole entity in 2003.

2002

Nathan Brown is appointed coach of St George Illawarra, replacing Andrew Farrar, who is sacked with a year remaining on his contract. Laurie Daley and David Barnhill are appointed as assistants.

2007

Melbourne's premiership-winning coach Craig Bellamy is appointed NSW State of Origin coach for 2008. Bellamy would coach the Blues for three years for a 2-7 record.

2014

Huge crowds turn out in central Sydney as the Rabbitohs are handed the keys to the city in an official celebration at Sydney Town Hall. The Rabbitohs had won their first grand final in 43 years on the previous Sunday.

2015       

Cowboys match-winner Johnathan Thurston claims his fourth Paul Bowman Medal as North Queensland player of the year. The award comes on top of his Dally M Medal, Clive Churchill Medal and RLPA Player of the Year award.

2018

Brisbane halfback Ali Brigginshaw is appointed Jillaroos captain after fullback Sam Bremner is ruled out of the Test against the Kiwi Ferns with a toe injury.
