Region aims to secure international game in 2020

The Queensland Rugby League South East Queensland Region has regrettably agreed to cancel the inaugural exchange against a visiting Papua New Guinea Rugby League Schoolgirls Under 18 team due to ongoing logistical issues.

“While this result is disappointing, we were still able to provide our Under 18 Girls squad with a development camp which ensured their skills are continuing to grow and improve,” SEQ chairman Brad Tallon said.

South East Queensland Region manager Adam Vanzanten said it was the intention of both the PNGRFL and QRL for this exchange to become an integral event of the rugby league calendar.

Vanzanten said he hoped the issues faced this year were overcome, to ensure this exchange commenced in 2020.

"Once again we would like to congratulate those selected in the SEQ Under 18 squad, and it is hoped that their participation in the development camp was beneficial," Vanzanten said.

"We also want to congratulate the appointed co-coaches in the competition - runners up Redlands' coach Andrew Brown and also former Queensland Residents/SEQ representative player and Goodna and Districts Junior Rugby League Football Club coach Ramon Filipine for their contribution to this squad."
