RE: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

This MEMO includes an update on information previously distributed specifically relating to the QRL operational response to COVID-19 pandemic.

Below is a summary of the government stimulus packages which are most applicable to rugby league clubs. 

Please review these documents and ensure your club applies to most relevant package so that your club gains the maximum benefit the government is offering in these stimulus packages.

As this crisis continues there are likely to be new or changes to the assistance provided by government so please monitor these sites closely to ensure that your clubs can benefit the most out of these initiatives. 

The QRL will continue to update all affiliates as new information becomes available.   This will include updated information on future government stimulus packages (including regional council programs) that specifically apply to community organisations.

Federal Government

Funding scheme Cash flow assistance for businesses
Amount Maximum amount: $50,000 Minimum amount: $10,000
Eligibility Small businesses registered for GST

Funding scheme Increasing the instant asset write-off
Amount  Threshold increased from $30,000 to $150,000

Queensland Government

Funding scheme Coronavirus payroll tax relief
Amount Refund of paid payroll tax
Eligibility An employer (or part of a group of employers) who pays $6.5 million or less

You may receive an email about:

  • refund of your payroll tax for two months
  • payroll tax holiday (i.e. no payroll tax to be paid) for three months
Fair Play vouchers The State Government have advised that they won’t be seeking reimbursement from the clubs in relation to any of their participants that have used these vouchers to register for this season. Consistent with the terms and conditions, these vouchers are not refundable to individual participants and will in turn support  ongoing expenses for clubs while rugby league is suspended.

Local Government

Funding scheme Brisbane City Council has waived permit fees for venues (please refer to your local council’s website to determine if your club can benefit from any initiatives provided in your region)
