Jets lead E-sports Challenge

Ipswich Jets sit on top of the Intrust Super Cup E-sports Challenge ladder after a hilarious and entertaining Round 1 of competition.

Players from nine Cup teams and a Maroons legend - the one and only Kane the cane toad - went head-to-head in Round 1; some showed they are seasoned gamers, others showed they are definitely not.

The players, from the comfort of their own homes, played the Rugby League Live 4 PlayStation game for their respective teams over two seven-minute halves, with commentator extraordinaire Peter Psaltis on hand to call the games.

Burleigh Bears gun Sami Sauiluma took on Wynnum Manly Seagulls' Jordan Drew and schooled him in the game, winning 16-0. Drew has since announced his retirement from the virtual version of the game.

Chris Lewis, for Sunshine Coast Falcons, beat Souths Logan Magpies' Guy Hamilton 12-0; and Shar Walden, for Ipswich Jets, also kept his opponent, Luke Jurd for Tweed Seagulls, scoreless, winning 30-0.

Mackay Cutters dynamo Paul Byrnes was super impressive against Easts Tigers' Linc Port, winning 34-6.

Maroons coach Kevie Walters dialled in the encourage Queensland's favourite amphibian in his clash with Townsville Blackhawks' Andrew Niemoeller and it worked. Kane claimed a 20-12 victory for the Maroons All Stars.

Round 2 kicks off on Sunday night.

Fans will be able to watch on at QRL.com.au and the Intrust Super Cup Facebook page.

New Tigers representative Michael Purcell will take on new Blackhawks representative Kieran Quabba, as both look for a Round 2 win; Jurd, for Tweed Seagulls, will be looking for redemption when he takes on Sunshine Coast Falcons' Jack Wright.

Blake Scott will be playing for the Magpies against a returning Sauiluma for the Bears.

Wynnum's Kalolo Saitaua replaces the retired Drew; he will take on Dane Francis, playing for the Cutters.

Walden, who was in fine form in Round 1 for the Jets, will take on new Maroons All Stars representative Jharal Yow Yeh.

Bring it on.
