Fast five with Kelsey Parkin

A striking talent in women's rugby league, young Indigenous player Kelsey Parkin has a bright future ahead of her in the game.

A member of the the Easts Tigers squad, who usually plays as a hooker, Parkin was part of the South East Queensland team in the NRL's Women's National Championships last year and also represented the Indigenous All Stars in the match played earlier this year.

Parkin is looking forward to taking to the field again next season in the BHP Premiership, but took some time out to answer questions for the 'fast five' challenge.

Football family - does anyone else in your family play? Who and with which team?

Not recently, but but my brothers and my dad played for Straddie Sharks, the North Stradbroke Island team.

Favourite footy memory?

Winning the All Stars match this year. Holding the trophy up, showing all my family and friends that came out to support me and the Indigenous All Stars was a great memory.

Fashion - what’s the most worn item in your wardrobe?

When we are in season or pre-season, definitely my Easts Tigers training kit. But at the moment it would be sports sets (sports top and tights) from a local place called My Tribe Move which is based in Cleveland.

Fitness tips? Any favourite exercises or tips for staying motivated?

I’m really enjoying core exercises at the moment and to stay motivated, I have a group chat with two of my closest friends where we share our workouts, progress, tips and tricks if one of us is struggling with something. We also meet up to train together every now and then (in normal times). My boyfriend also helps me stay motivated and pushes me to be better.

Find out more - is there anything you are studying up on, reading, watching now that you are spending more time at home?

I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Primary Education. Outside of study, my boyfriend and I have been re-watching the Fast and Furious movie series, and TV show Ozark. Every now and then, I get to watch some Gilmore Girls, but not very often.
