Deja voodoo: Cowboys want to make amends for losing stadium opener

Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt is hopeful a revamped 2020 draw hands his side a chance to make amends for a round-one loss at their new home ground.

The impressive Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville opened to much fanfare in March but the home side succumbed to a 28-21 loss to Brisbane.

With the full draw set to be available next week, Feldt was hopeful of a chance to give the new home ground a more memorable performance and to carry forward some momentum from an impressive round-two win over Canterbury.

"We've only had one game at our new stadium so were hopeful we can get a couple of games up here at the start and get a feel for our new stadium as well," Feldt said.

"The way we started the year at our new home, we really want to make it a fortress and that's not the way we went about it the first game.

"We were all pretty disappointed about it, that's in the back of our mind as well. If we do get round three to go ahead up here, we'll treat it as a round one game as well."

Feldt admitted the hiatus hadn't come at a good time for the Cowboys after a morale-boosting win under duress, having to travel to Sydney and back on the same day due to increasing quarantine rules.

"I think we were building," he said.

"After our first game we were disappointing, after having to travel down against the Bulldogs then fly back that same day we were able to build on our first game and be lucky enough to get a good win the way we did and grind it out."

Hooker Reece Robson was arguably more impacted by the enforced hiatus than most, having just played two games for his new club and starting to find his feet in a new team environment when things were called off.

"It was good to have a few games at the start of the year with the boys, the break was a pain in the butt for everyone," Robson said.

"To get back up and running and play more games and feel more part of the team will get better the more games you play.

"It feels like we're starting the season again," he said.

"It was disappointing not getting the first win at our home ground against the Broncos but we turned it around against the Bulldogs and hopefully carry a bit of confidence into this next game."
