SEQ to explore options after Ipswich bow out

Queensland Rugby League's South East Region is open to exploring new participation opportunities with clubs and players following Rugby League Ipswich’s decision last night to cancel its 2020 junior and senior competitions.

“Whilst it’s disappointing that the Ipswich League have decided not to proceed with their competitions in 2020, we understand the challenges that are involved,” South East chair Brad Tallon said.

“The South East Region will continue to do all that it can to allow any club, team or player, male or female, that wants to play our great game in 2020 to do so and we will continue to work with the relevant parties on options for alternative competitions in Ipswich or other options within the region.”

The RLI Board informed the local league community of the decision last night after significant consultation with all senior and junior clubs

The clear majority of clubs chose not to play in 2020 after taking into account the State Government restrictions and the guidelines in the QRL Return to Play Handbook.

A FAQ document will be presented on the RLI website once final confirmation is received on matters including refunds to clubs, club refunds to parents / players and insurance.
