Casualty Ward: Green ACL recovery going well; Fifita into rehab at Titans

Knights five-eighth Blake Green says his recovery from knee surgery is "progressing quite nicely" with the aim of starting to run before or just after Christmas.

However, the 34-year-old playmaker is "not 100% sure yet" about when he will return to the playing field. Green had his operation at the start of September.

"I'm going great, mate. Obviously I'm really excited to be remaining here in Newcastle," Green, who played three games for the Knights in 2020 after leaving the Warriors, told reporters on Friday.

"From the moment I had my surgery I've been in the gym and with our rehab team just working really hard. Things are progressing quite nicely.

"I'm not 100% sure yet in terms of a time frame, but I've sort of broken it down into month blocks. I'm in my third monthly block at the moment, so it's just a bit of a strength phase that we're in.

"I've just been diving into that and just putting all my focus into there. Fingers crossed I can make a quick and smooth return."

Meanwhile, Titans recruit David Fifita expects to start the pre-season in rehab as he continues his recovery from ankle surgery.

The former Broncos second-rower, who fronted the media in Gold Coast colours on Friday, went under the knife after being hurt in round 19.

He will begin working with his new teammates when the Gold Coast kick off training on Monday.

"I need a good full pre-season to make sure I'm in great shape," Fifita said.

"I'll probably be in rehab still [when pre-season begins] as I had surgery on my ankle at the back end of the season.

"I've got good physios and medical staff looking after me."

NSW have confirmed captain James Tedesco and five-eighth Cody Walker have "recovered well" after being heavily concussed in the State of Origin-deciding loss to Queensland on Wednesday.
