Fogarty's Papa grief: 'I might throw my phone in the bin'

Jamal Fogarty says he's thinking of throwing his phone in the bin after copping it deluxe for being run down by Josh Papalii in one of the tackles of the decade on the weekend.

The Titans halfback did a great job to burst clear from a 20-metre tap only for Raiders prop Papalii to run him down with an ankle tap after a 60-metre sprint for the ages.

Fogarty was a good sport on Tuesday when he spoke to media about "that tackle" and its aftermath.

"I thought I was just in front of him enough to get there but obviously he was a lot closer than what I thought. I don't know why I didn't run to the left… but he just got me," Fogarty grinned.

"I didn't know who it was. I just felt someone coming over my right hand shoulder. Minutes later Jordan Rapana said 'Cuz, how did you let him catch you?' and I was just rattled. I didn't know it was Papalii.

"I was very embarrassed. I've been copping a lot of text messages from people so I think I might throw my phone in the bin after the last couple of days."

Fogarty was one of the Titans' best in the 36-16 loss to Canberra and has been a success story this season. He has played all 13 games since the competition's resumption where his organising, kicking and running game have featured. In seven of the past nine games the 26-year-old has run for more than 100 metres, including a career high of 193 metres against Penrith.

Such has been his development that coach Justin Holbrook installed Fogarty as captain against the Raiders, a huge honour for the former Beaudesert Kingfisher junior.

"It's definitely right up there, being a local junior. I remember running around in my front yard growing up saying I want to be captain of an NRL club," he said.

"To sit back and reflect that I have achieved that on the weekend, as a local junior for my local team, that is very special.

"I am so honoured that the coaching staff even asked me to do that. I still find it so surreal that it has happened."

Fogarty had been signed twice before to the Titans and in between had a short stint with the Eels. He was a key figure in two Intrust Super Cup premiership wins for the Burleigh Bears.

Now he is one of the first picked for the Titans and said he should be right to play against the Dragons on Friday night despite copping a heavy knock to the ribs against Canberra.

"The ribs pulled up pretty sore and I've been getting physio the last couple of days just to monitor it so it should be right," he said.

Halves partner Ash Taylor missed the clash with the Raiders with a quad strain with Tanah Boyd lining up alongside Fogarty at five-eighth. Taylor has been named to play the Dragons.

"I thought Tanah did a great job on the weekend given the opportunity," Fogarty said.
