Community rugby league made a triumphant return at the weekend with the Sunshine Coast / Gympie Rugby League season the first of many competitions to kick off across the state.
Fans were out in force at four venues across the coast for the first round of competitive senior footy in over 18 months after the area opted not to return after the COVID-19 hiatus last year.
The next leagues to kick off their 2021 seasons will be Cairns and Bundaberg who commence in just under one fortnight.

Maudsley Excavations Cup - Sunshine Coast
Senior footy made its long-awaited return to the Sunshine Coast with nine A Grade teams in the hunt for premiership glory.
Noosa Pirates sent a message to the rest of the competition with a 42-6 demolition of 2019 premiers Stanley River; meanwhile, Kawana defeated Nambour, Gympie was able to grind out a gritty 10-4 win over Caboolture and there was a plethora of tries scored when Beerwah downed Maroochydore to complete Round 1.
