The Fringe Dudes Episode 1: Footy's back ft. Michael Purcell

An exciting new podcast launches today to unpack Queensland Rugby League's statewide competitions.

Each week, QRL content producers Jorja Brinums and Colleen Edwards, and myself, Cameron Stallard, will explore Queensland's top rugby league competitions - the Intrust Super Cup and BHP Premiership - and will introduce fans to different players and officials from across the competitions.

Boasting a unique podcast name, QRL lead content producer Jorja Brinums likened it to an onion.

"The name 'The Fringe Dudes' is like an onion... it has so many layers," Brinums said.

"Originally, it was used by the editorial team to describe the pool of extremely talented players playing in the Intrust Super Cup competition - on the fringes of the NRL - waiting for their opportunity to take the next step.

"It has also been used to describe the match officials and coaches doing the same.

"But it has since developed to describe our editorial trio; Colleen Edwards, Cameron Stallard and myself - always on the fringes of the game.... passionate rugby league supporters who are always at games talking to players, coaches, taking photos, writing about the games.

This week, there was plenty to discuss with more than 365 days since the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Round 1 of the 2021 season was on the agenda, including the Team of the Week, and Round 2 is also previewed.

Brisbane Tigers speedster Michael Purcell also joined as a special guest with the first 20 questions segment of the year.
