Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that talented young hooker Jake Simpkin has signed a contract extension with the club.

Simpkin, who was already under contract for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, has signed a further two-year deal to keep him at Wests Tigers until at least the end of the 2024 season.

Still only 19 years of age, the promising rake made his first-grade debut against South Sydney earlier this year and has been named to start at hooker for his third game this Sunday against the St. George-Illawarra Dragons.

Simpkin said he was delighted to extend his future with the club.

“I couldn’t be happier to be here at the club,” Simpkin said.

“I’m really enjoying and excited by what we’re building at Wests Tigers and I want to be part of that long-term.

I’m determined to keep putting in my best performances each week now and be a contributing factor to bringing success to the club.

Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire praised the young hooker for his work ethic and his improvement since joining the club last year.

“Jake’s worked incredibly hard since he’s come to Wests Tigers and has shown a great attitude and commitment to all that’s been asked of him,” Maguire said.

“He’s still got his entire career ahead of him and we’re looking forward to watching him develop further as a player in Wests Tigers colours for many years to come.”

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said the club was pleased to secure Simpkin’s services at the club long-term.

“On behalf of all at the club, I’d like to congratulate Jake on his new deal and say how pleased we are to see him commit his future to Wests Tigers,” Pascoe said.

“We firmly believe that Jake is a real up-and-coming talent and his long-term commitment to the future of this club is a strong show of intent in what we’re building at Wests Tigers.

“In addition to his clear on-field ability, Jake is a fine young man and we’re privileged to see him develop as both a player and a person at Wests Tigers.”
