All three of this weekend's Queensland Rugby League regional championships will be broadcast live and free in a major win for fans wanting to cheer on their local area.
With representative games being played in Townsville, Bundaberg and Brisbane as qualifiers for the recently-announced XXXX A Grade League Championship, the Foley Shield, 47th Battalion and Chairman's Challenge will all be available to watch live or on demand on QRL.com.au and on each region's Facebook page.
QRL community rugby league general manager Glenn Ottaway said the ability to showcase these high quality community rugby league competitions was a massive win for the game.
“These events are a significant part of the community rugby league calendar and with the re-vamped XXXX A Grade League Championship program announced last week, they potentially have even greater meaning," Ottaway said.
“All three events always attract great community interest - both live at the venue and online. Broadcasting each event makes them accessible across the whole state and highlights the quality of rugby league played across all regions.
“Our genuine statewide footprint is our competitive advantage but also one of our biggest challenges given Queensland's vast geography.
"Investment in technology is a QRL priority at the moment and this weekend’s action across all three regions ensures that we can put the spotlight on community rugby league.”
Action in North Queensland and the South East kicks off on Friday night, whilst Central's 50th running of the 47th Battalion will commence on Saturday morning.
