Round 8 Week 1 preview: McGrady's 400 reasons to celebrate

While it may be a split round this weekend, there is still plenty of great rugby league to look forward to in Week 1 of Round 8's BHP Indigenous Round.

Clubs across the competition will be celebrating the contributions of Indigenous players and participants to the game.

  • The Cutters have now lost their past three games, and have also lost their past nine home games, their biggest ever home losing run
  • This weekend, the Cutters will be hoping to replicate the result from their last home game at BB Print Stadium against Northern Pride - however, the Cairns-based club also won the previous five outings
  • Following their second 18-18 draw this season, Pride have two wins and two draws in their past four away games
  • Pride’s Heilum Luki received a call up for North Queensland Cowboys last night, scoring a try on debut

Tweed Seagulls v Brisbane Tigers

  • The Seagulls have been performing well so far this season to be third in the ladder and have four wins and a draw in their last five games.
  • They have a good record against their opposition this week; Tweed have won the past two, and three of the past four, games against the Tigers
  • Piggabeen is known as a hard place to win for opposition teams, and this week, the Tigers will have to overcome a record that has them only winning one of the past nine games between these two sides at the ground, with one drawn game.
  • Versatile and consistent back Lindon McGrady brought up 400 points for Tweed last weekend in their draw with Northern Pride.
  • This will be the 50th Cup game for halfback Darren Nicholls, who has previously played in the competition with Norths Devils, Redcliffe Dolphins and Souths Logan Magpies
  • In other club news, Tigers fullback Gerard Beale is back in the NRL after being signed by St George Illawarra Dragons

  • Capras now have recorded 28 losses and two draws in their last 30 games
  • They also have nine losses and a draw in their last 10 games at Browne Park, however, they have two wins and a draw from the past three games between these two sides
  • The Capras meet a Magpies size buzzing after posting a 48-14 win last weekend, their biggest ever over the PNG Hunters
  • Souths Logan have won the past four and six of the past seven games between these two sides at Browne Park with the last game there in 2016
  • They will have to do it without two of the players who have helped them find their wins this season, with lock Kobe Hetherington named to make his NRL debut for the Brisbane Broncos, with experienced halfback Albert Kelly also in the line-up

Norths Devils v Sunshine Coast Falcons

Hashtags: #intrustsupercup #DEVILSvSCF

  • The Sunshine Coast have won the past three, and six of the past seven games played between these two sides.
  • The Falcons have won the past two, and three of the past four games between these two sides at Bishop Park
  • Norths have won two of their past three home games, while Sunshine Coast have won two of their past three away games
  • In milestone news, Todd Murphy passed John Wilshere to move to eighth all-time in Cup scorers with 904 points. The Falcons half requires 11 points to bring up 400 for the Falcons
  • Devils winger Jon Reuben is now equal ninth for all-time Cup try score on 96, equal with Shane Neumann
  • Former Falcon and current Devils flyer Paul Ulberg is set to play in his 50th Cup game
