Learning opportunity sealed Raiders deal for Fogarty

The chance to learn from legendary halfback Ricky Stuart and link with Clive Churchill Medalist Jack Wighton were huge selling points for former Titan Jamel Fogarty in his move to Canberra.

The chance to secure his future with a three-year deal was the other key selling point for the 27-year-old, who spoke in his first week at his new club about the chance to work with some esteemed names.

"Being a half, to work with Ricky, I'm super excited about that," Fogarty said.

"I'm kind of new so I haven't really got a gauge on 'Stick' yet but obviously his success at the club, he knows what needs to be done so hopefully I can try and pick his brains as much as possible and hopefully we can work together, myself individually and as a team to bring a bit of success back to the club."

Fogarty also hoped that he and Wighton could get the best out of each other in 2022.

"I'm obviously super excited about trying to link up with Jacky," he said.

"We all know what type of player he is, when he's got the ball if he wants to run over blokes he will or he's got enough speed to run around blokes.

"He's one of those X-factor players so hopefully we can get a good combination there and I can free him up a little bit and hopefully we see the best of Jacky next season.

"The opportunity to keep playing in the NRL was definitely a tick (to signing here) and to hopefully partner up with Jack in the halves, we all know what kind of player he is.

"Hopefully he can get a real good understanding of how I play and what I can do and hopefully what I can do for him and vice versa and hopefully Jacky can take a bit of pressure off me and we can really get the team moving in the right direction."

Fogarty also admitted his groin issues were still hampering him somewhat but hoped to get a full pre-season in.

"[My goals are] just to get strong through my groin, I had a few issues there last year so hopefully I can get on top of that, stay injury-free as well, keep training hard and put my best foot forward to make sure I'm in the team for round one," he said.
