Brigginshaw follows father's footsteps at the Tigers

Brisbane Tigers have announced the signing of current Australian Jillaroos and Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons captain Ali Brigginshaw as the club’s first signing for the upcoming 2022 QRLW Premiership season.

Brigginshaw’s signing sees her follow in the footsteps of her father Larry Brigginshaw who is former Tigers centurion player #741 and a premiership winner in 1983.

“I first started playing as a Tiger at the North Ipswich Tigers and Dad also played there, and so now I’m following his footsteps playing here at the Brisbane Tigers,” Brigginshaw said of becoming the club’s inaugural father-daughter duo.

“It means a lot to me and it was pretty cool to make the phone call to dad. He was pretty excited and couldn’t wait to catch up with all of his old boys.

“Whenever we come here (Langlands), I know how much he loves it and so to pull on the jersey it’s a big thing for not only me but for my family.”

At the age of 32, Brigginshaw brings a wealth of experience to the Tigers including more than a decade of representative experience playing for both Queensland and Australia.

In a decorated career, some of Brigginshaw’s achievements include:

  • State of Origin winner with Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons in 2020 and 2021
  • NRL Dally M Medal winner for female Player of the Year in 2020
  • NRLW premiership winner with the Brisbane Broncos 2018, 2019 and 2020
  • International Test winner with Australian Jillaroos in 2018
  • Women’s Rugby League World Cup winner with Australia Jillaroos in 2013 and 2017

The Ipswich junior will join the club after spending the past season with Valleys Diehards who played against the Tigers in the 2021 BHP Premiership competition.

“I was speaking to Vowlesy (coach Adrian Vowles), and one thing about (the Tigers) is that I thought the girls were great whenever you played against them,” Brigginshaw said of her signing with the club.

“They always showed up, they were always committed to the team and to the jersey.

“It was an easy decision to come here.”

The Tigers will launch their 2022 season in Round 1 against Souths Logan Magpies.
