Statewide competitions trials: March 12-13

More teams finetuned their preparations for the Hostplus Cup season which will kick off late this month with a number of trial games played this past weekend.

In Gladstone, local fans were treated to a Central Queensland Capras victory over the PNG Hunters who had their first hit out of 2022 following the unfortunate cancellation of the PacificAus Sports Melanesian Bowl match.

Further north, home side Northern Pride claimed a good victory against Townsville Blackhawks in their match at Barlow Park, while back in the southeast of the state, the Burleigh Bears won both of their matches against Tweed Seagulls played at Pizzey Park.

Norths Devils made a successful trip up to the Sunshine Coast with their solid result against the Falcons, while Brisbane Tigers claimed victory against Wynnum Manly Seagulls in both their Hostplus Cup and QRLW Premiership matches.

Unfortunately, the games set down between Souths Logan Magpies and Redcliffe Dolphins in the Hostplus Cup and Hastings Deering Colts were not able to be played following an inspection of the playing fields.

Redcliffe will be in action this weekend however, and will face the Sunshine Coast Falcons at Bribie Island.

Elsewhere this weekend, Frank Lind Oval in Mitchelton will host two exciting games, with home side Wests Panthers taking on Brisbane Tigers in the QRLW Premiership and the men’s Brisbane Rugby League side facing the PNG Hunters in what will be a treat for fans.

Denison Park in Bowen will also see two games played, with Townsville Blackhawks facing off against Mackay Cutters in both the Hostplus Cup and Hastings Deering Colts.

Cup sides will have one more week to prepare for the season to kick off, with the first match of the season seeing Tweed Seagulls host Brisbane Tigers on Saturday, March 18.

The QRLW Premiership will begin on March 26, with the Hastings Deering Colts competition starting on April 1.
