QRL opens applications for funding support

Queensland Rugby League is pleased to announce it has today opened applications for Queensland clubs seeking financial support from the disaster relief fund.

The fund, announced last week by the National Rugby League, has been created in a joint initiative by the NRL, QRL, Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans and Telstra.

QRL chief executive officer Rohan Sawyer confirmed affected clubs were now able to make an immediate application.

“Our QRL workforce has witnessed a lot of the damage and devastation first-hand, which has only reinforced the need for us to move quickly and finalise the funding application process to help clubs get back on their feet,” Sawyer said.

“Community spirit has really come to the fore in these challenging times, and so too have the countless number of volunteers who have co-ordinated major clean ups.

“Putting steps in place to ensure the funding can be delivered as soon as possible to assist clubs in need right now is the least we can do.

“We’re also committed to creating a ‘legacy’ fund to ensure that clubs impacted by natural disaster across all parts of Queensland in the future are supported.”

Clubs can apply via the Club Damage Report created by the QRL through the Inspection Apps.

Clubs seeking support for this process are advised to contact their local league and club co-ordinator.

The priorities identified in Round 1 of funding include support to cover insurance claim costs and the purchase of essential equipment for club operations (which may include items not covered by insurance).

Additional funding rounds may also be released in the coming weeks to support larger infrastructure works that may be required.

Clubs are also encouraged to view the resource centre available on the QRL website which outlines other funding support available from all forms of Government.
