Bulimba Valleys are on a mission to make their mark in junior rugby league.

While the club already has a strong reputation in senior football – including a team within the BRL A grade competition – their junior program has only been up and running for the past three years.

They introduced an under 6 team to start and have developed from there, with those foundation players playing in the under 9 competition.

And now in their fourth season, the club are taking their recruitment efforts to the next level.

They have recently done a massive flyer drop in surrounding suburbs and have also combined forces with the NRL’s League Stars program.

Club secretary Tahni Mills said they currently had teams for under 6s up to under 9s, but needed more under 8s players and would love to implement an under 10s team.

“People don’t know we’re there,” Mills said.

“We have started small but we want to keep growing. We’ve just finished a 20,000 flyer drop in our suburbs and from that we’ve already got 12 new players for our under 6s, which is absolutely brilliant.

“We are still targeting under 8s and would love to get under 10s, even though we know it might be difficult.

“With the League Stars, we’re hoping it draws attention to us. This program will get the word into schools and can help expose us… if people don’t know about us, then this tells them about our club and where we’re located.”

With the junior season to kick-off on the weekend of April 23 and 24, Mills said registrations would remain open for at least the next few weeks, particularly for their under 8s side.

There will also be a League Stars clinic at the club on Sunday, April 3, for those aged five to 12.

The holiday clinic will introduce children to rugby league, but Mills said she mostly hoped any children who attended used the hour and a half to have some fun.
