Round 4 preview: Ready for action in XXXX Rivalry Round

It's XXXX Rivalry Round in the Hostplus Cup and it is guaranteed to produce some epic encounters with form going out the window when fierce oppositions go head-to-head.   

Fans should get to the grounds this weekend for their chance to snag a free XXXX bucket hat to get into the spirit of XXXX Rivalry Round.

PNG Hunters v Sunshine Coast Falcons

  • There has been a strong rivalry between these two clubs since meeting in the 2017 grand final and this weekend’s game is shaping up to be no different
  • Sunshine Coast Falcons have won three of the past four games played against the Hunters
  • The Hunters however have won the only game played between these two sides at Runaway Bay, posting a physically dominant 32-12 win last year
  • Since that victory, the Hunters have lost five of their six games at Runaway Bay's Bycroft Oval
  • Sunshine Coast have struggled on the road in recent times and have lost three of their last four away games
  • In team news, the Hunters blooded a number of new faces last weekend, including Matthew Jesse who remains at fullback this weekend and halfback Jamie Mavoko

Northern Pride v Townsville Blackhawks

  • After posting their first win of the season last weekend, Townsville Blackhawks will host Northern Pride in a North Queensland derby
  • The Blackhawks require 10 points to bring up 4000 in the Cup; they have 2564 against
  • Townsville have won three of the past four games played between these two sides and have have won all five games played between these two sides at Barlow Park
  • Overall, the Pride have lost their past three games at Barlow Park
  • The home side will be without winger Gideon Gela-Mosby for this game after he took an early guilty plea for a shoulder charge. Forward Nick Lui-Toso will also miss this match after also taking an guilty plea for dangerous contact
  • This will be Kyle Laybutt's 74th game for Townsville. His 73rd moved him past Anthony Mitchell for the third most games for the Blackhawks. Laybutt, who many know as a half, remains in the centres this weekend 

Central Queensland Capras v Mackay Cutters

  • Two top-four teams face off this weekend when Central Queensland Capras host fellow early-season flyers Mackay Cutters
  • This is the first time ever that the Capras have won the first three games of the season
  • Central Queensland have not won four games in a row since 2009
  • Mackay have won the past four, and seven of the past eight, games between these two sides
  • Central's win against PNG Hunters in Round 2 was their first win at Browne Park in 15 games
  • Mackay have won two of their past three away games
  • After racking up 50 games of Cup last weekend, this will be the 50th game for the Capras for forward Jamie Hill. His only other Cup match was played with Tweed
  • Cutters centre Sam Fa'apito will miss this match after taking an early guilty plea for a crusher tackle
  • The Capras will wear their 1982 heritage jersey for this game. The weekend is 40 years since the Capras won their first game at Browne Park when entering the state league

  • Sparks are set to fly in this match with the Burleigh Bears and Tweed Seagulls holding one of the strongest rivalries in the competition
  • This will be Burleigh's 550th Cup match, they have won 318, drawn 19 and lost 212
  • Burleigh are currently in good form and have won their past three games and also also won nine of the past 10 games between these two sides
  • Burleigh have won the past five games between these two sides at Pizzey Park
  • Overall, the Bears have won their past 11 games at Pizzey Park
  • Tweed Seagulls will be looking to bounce back from last weekend's close loss which saw them struggle to score points against the Devils
  • The Seagulls have lost four of their past five away games
  • Seagulls skipper Lindon McGrady still needs just one more goal to bring up 200 in the Cup

Redcliffe Dolphins v Wynnum Manly Seagulls
