Gold Stars sign NRLW Lock of the Year

The North Queensland Toyota Gold Stars have signed 18-year-old NRLW Lock of the Year Destiny Brill for the remainder of the 2022 BMD Premiership season.

With the ability to play at hooker and lock, Brill bypassed the Under 19s Origin pathways and made her Women’s Origin debut for the Maroons just two weeks after her 18th birthday in 2021, scoring Queensland's only try in an 8-6 win over New South Wales.

Brill was earlier this month named the RLPA Rookie of the Year after staring for the Gold Coast Titans in her debut season in the NRLW, leading the competition in tackle breaks (35), while averaging 93 running metres and making 95% of her tackles.

The West Brisbane Panthers junior was last month named in the Maroons extended squad alongside fellow Gold Stars Romy Teitzel, Emma Manzelmann, Jasmine Peters, Shaniah Power and Hagiga Mosby.

"She'll add some good speed and size around the middle," Gold Stars head coach Gavin Lloyd said.

"Even though she's still very young, Destiny has already achieved quite a bit in her young career and she'll be a great addition to our forward pack."
