Round 5 preview: Competition commemorates ANZAC Round

Hostplus Cup Round 5 will see the competition commemorate ANZAC Day, with many clubs hosting special ceremonies to mark the occasion.

Now a well-established tradition within Cup, the Burleigh Bears will host PNG Hunters on ANZAC Day - Monday, April 25 - as they play to claim the Kokoda Cup.

Sunshine Coast Falcons v Mackay Cutters

  • The Sunshine Coast have won the past five, and six of the past seven, games between these two sides, the last five by 14 points or more

Ipswich Jets v Norths Devils

  • Ipswich Jets have planned an extensive game day, with the club hosting their annual Defence Force Appreciation Day which will include a special ANZAC Day tribute before kick-off. The club are also offering free entry for all Defence and SES personnel 
  • On the field, the Jets will be working hard to turn around their recent form which has seen them lose their past four games
  • Their opponents Norths have won two of the past three matches between these two sides, but the Jets have won four of the past six games they have played against the Devils

  • This will be the 50th game for Norths for centre Connor Broadhurst who has played 137th overall following past stints with Burleigh Bears and Central Queensland Capras
  • Ipswich Jets half Rhys Jacks will play his 100th Cup game this weekend. Jacks has vast experience in the competition after previously playing with Souths Logan Magpies, Sunshine Coast Falcons and Brisbane Tigers
  • In late-breaking news this week, Norths coach Rohan Smith signed on with immediate effect to guide Super League team Leeds Rhinos

Northern Pride v Redcliffe Dolphins
