Gold Stars outpoint Bears in big win

The North Queensland Gold Stars made it three-straight wins with a 40-26 win over the Burleigh Bears at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Round 4.

Winger Hagiga Mosby made a strong first impression on the home fans, muscling her way to a try just four minutes into her Gold Stars debut.

It didn’t take long for the Bears to hit back though, with hooker Tarnisha Lyons darting out of dummy half to give Burleigh a 6-4 lead.

When NRLW quartet Emma Manzelmann, Romy Teitzel, Shaniah Power and Lauren Moss all crossed within 20 minutes, the Gold Stars looked to be well on top at 26-10 at the break.

The Bears came out firing in the second half, with Tazmin Gray crossed for a double in the blink of an eye to reduce the margin to six points with half an hour remaining.

Just when it looked like Burleigh were right back in the contest, a try to Alicia Martin and double to Jasmine Peters pushed the score out to 40-20.

Burleigh were able to grab a late consolation try though Sophie Buller, who went over untouched after receiving a short ball from Gray.

The Gold Stars host the Central Queensland Capras in a top-of-the-table clash in Mackay next week.
