Toowoomba Round 6 wrap: Eagles and Hawks deliver thriller

Highfields defeated Gatton in a thrilling showdown at Glenholme Park, overcoming the Hawks 20-10 in the battle of the birds.

The game was relocated from Highfields ground due to the conditions.

Player of the match Matt Prowse and Cory McGrady scored early for the Eagles to get them to a 12-0 lead and this proved to be the difference with the match remaining tight from then on.

Once Gatton came back into the game at 12-6, the match was a real grind.

Highfields took a penalty to get to 14-6.

Prowse was tremendous for Highfields, continuing his 2022 form and continually troubling the Hawks. McGrady also kept turning Gatton around.

For Gatton, Shannon Hicks had his best game of the season and Tyson White grabbed a double.

But it was Tom Hatch who scored late for the Eagles, sealing the deal for his side.

It was Highfields' defence that truly won the day for them - Gatton threw everything at them and they responded, getting across the line in a gritty display.
