Female stars of the game unite to launch Maroons jersey

Past and present stars of women’s rugby league have come together to proudly launch the 2022 Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons jersey.

In a moving video piece that tells the story of how far the female game has come, Maroons coach Tahnee Norris, and current squad members Steph Hancock and Ali Brigginshaw talk intimately about what the jersey means to them.

Norris refers to the players and coaches who have gone before as “history shapers”.

“In the beginning, there was no money, no jersey, no Maroons name – but we played for Queensland and we played for pride,” Norris says.

Hancock, a pioneer of the women’s game alongside the likes of Karyn Murphy, Jo Barrett and Renae Kunst, remains as passionate as ever about her beloved Maroons.

“What the jersey means… it’s opportunity, it’s family, it’s everything,” says Hancock, who first represented Queensland in 2004.

Brigginshaw shares that sentiment, declaring “we all belong to Queensland” as part of the ‘United in Maroon’ theme that will form the cornerstone of the state’s respective male and female team mindsets in 2022.

Both the men’s and women’s State of Origin jerseys have been launched through an aligned campaign for the first time, as Queensland’s flagship rugby league teams gear up for rugby league’s greatest on-field rivalry.

This is the second Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons jersey released in conjunction with major partner PUMA, with the team set to don the new strip in the highly anticipated clash at Canberra’s GIO Stadium on June 24.

The official replica jersey is available now on MaroonsShop in men’s, women’s and youth sizes, as well as a team polos in men’s and women’s sizing.
