Gatton and Highfields to go down to the wire

The top three teams of the Toowoomba Rugby League men's A grade remain.

It has been such a close competition this season. In fact, the last two seasons have been. Any of the top seven teams would be worthy finalists.

But back to 2022. Wattles are through to the grand final and Gatton and Highfields will meet this Sunday for that last spot in the decider.

It was a great day down at Gatton last Sunday. What a huge crowd. It won’t be forgotten for a while.

The crowd lifted the Wattles sides as well and it was a wonderful atmosphere.

When it came to the result, Wattles outsmarted their opposition and Gatton’s response wasn’t enough.

As for Highfields, they just don’t go away. Their season was on the line last week and they put their bodies on the line.

They had players out and they will struggle to make the field again in this game. In fact, Keoller and Prowse are still out and if Fanning plays, you would think his ankle would still be sore.

Gatton put Highfields away 40-26 three weeks ago in Round 17 and were excellent that day. But they did the same to Wattles and look what has happened since.

Sunday will be a different game. Gatton will bounce back simply because they have played just the one game in a few weeks.

Highfields, meanwhile, have had a horror run against top sides for seven weeks, yet they keep turning up.
