'Whatever position, I just want to win': Brimson ready for six or one

Regardless of what number jersey AJ Brimson wears next season, he only has one goal in mind... to win games.

Where the talented 24-year-old plays in 2023 is a predicament that has divided fans, let alone the Titans coaching staff who have a tough job ahead of them to determine the position he'll line-up at come Round 1.

The arrival of Kieran Foran and Sam Verrills has reinforced the side's spine, but it has now created an even tougher quandary for Justin Holbrook.

The Gold Coast mentor has remained tight lipped on which way he'll sway when it comes to deciding where the talented star will play, and Brimson himself is happy to leave the all-important decision up to the powers that be.

"I don't know... I'll leave that one up to Justin. I just want to win games," he said.

"If that's me at fullback or me at six, I'm happy either way. I'm actually really confident to play at both positions.

"My priority is to win games, so if that's me at six, or one... or even front row, I don't care."

'The footy community has been great': Brimson

Last season saw the incumbent five-eighth play a versatile role across the season; in the halves for 15 games, as well as making seven appearances covering the No. 1 spot whilst Jayden Campbell was injured.

His playmaking prowess proved dividends as well, finishing the regular season in the top 10 for try assists with 15, especially setting up Beau Fermor on a number of occasions -  a successful partnership the Titans star is happy to continue with in the new year.

"That [combination is] probably why I'm happy to play at five-eighth again next year if that's what happens," Brimson said.

"Beau Fermor and I had a good little combination there and I'm happy to be on the left with him or happy to be at the back."

Not even keen observers at Parkwood can get an early steer as to where he'll end up, training in both positions to keep the entire spine on their toes to fight for the coveted positions.

"The talk [at training] has probably just been more [playing] both," Brimson said.

"Tanah Boyd's been training well and finished the season in good form. We've also got Toby Sexton, young Tom Weaver coming up and obviously Kieran Foran in the halves, then young Keano (Kini) and JC (Jayden Campbell)... plus myself.

"I've been in the halves pushing people and then at fullback pushing JC as well, just so there's no comfortability with spots."

Whichever way Holbrook goes come the season opener against the Wests Tigers, Brimson feels ready and more than capable to fill any position, which could prove to be a winning ace for the Titans coach.

"I feel like come Round 1, I think I could slot into six or one pretty comfortably," he said.

"Obviously, for training and trials... and not even for me, but for others, if I'm in the halves for edge defence, getting combinations is important as everyone defends a little bit differently, but for me personally, I'm happy either way."
