QRL release 2022 Annual Report

Rugby league in Queensland thrived throughout another highly entertaining and engaging 2022 season.

While there were many challenges, new opportunities emerged from those testing times and the QRL was proud to stand up and be a leader in the sporting field.

There were some incredible highlights and remarkable stories both on and off the field, and these are documented in the QRL’s 2022 Annual Report released today.

The comprehensive report charts the activities and achievements of the QRL as a whole, in developing the game, playing the game and delivering the game.

QRL chair Bruce Hatcher said he was proud to be associated with another strong and rewarding year that saw community participation grow by nearly five per cent.

“Rugby league once again made an extraordinary difference to many people in communities right across Queensland,” Hatcher said.

“We witnessed this impact during the Maroons visit to Warwick and various other events and matches, including the Activate Queensland! Country Week round that was played in regional and outback Queensland.”

QRL chief executive officer Rohan Sawyer said 2022 was a rewarding but financially challenging year for the QRL.

“A number of key strategic investments contributed to our result, including funding support for flood affected community clubs and investment in our organisational risk management capability, as well as significant inflationary pressures which contributed to increased costs across our Statewide competitions and football programs,” Sawyer said.

“We are excited for what 2023 will bring as we continue our path of growth across Queensland, by supporting our communities to see rugby league thrive.”
