Statewide score wrap: Liam Harry proves big hit in A grade debut

A tear-inducing moment brought the crowd to their feet in the final stages of a one-sided Central Highlands A grade match on Saturday night.
Fans were on their feet cheering the involvement of one of Bluff Rabbitohs' hardest working clubmen, Liam Harry, at the end of a "very rough game" against Emerald Tigers.
The 17-year-old is on the autism spectrum and reached out to A grade coach Ethan McLaughlin in the pre-season asking if he could be involved.
Happy to oblige, Liam then turned up to every pre-season session, with McLaughlin determined to get him on the field with the help of a willing opposition.
His moment came in the final minutes of the 58-4 loss, and he certainly made the most of it.
"With probably about eight minutes to go I organised it and I told him, 'Go have a run mate, warm up, you might be going on in a second' and you could just see the joy on his face," McLaughlin said.
"My wife is a water runner for us and she had a tear in her eye and for something like that to bring emotions out in people, it's pretty special.
"Our front rower Billy Byrne, he's a very tough footballer, and with about eight to go Billy's put his hand up and yelled out, 'Put Liam on'.
"I said to Liam, 'I think you're going to have to go on for Billy, he doesn't look too flash out there.'
"They then scored, so we wasted a minute or two there, but we kicked off, and Billy had set it up with the other captain and said, 'be careful, don't knock him over' and we kicked off - a short kick-off to about 25m out - and their big lock, he's a monster, he caught it, run up, and Liam came out of the line and absolutely belted him.
"The whole crowd was on their feet clapping and yelling out his name and - I'm shaking talking about it now - it was really inspirational for him to get a go.
"He got up and got to marker and they kept playing because they were trying to put more points on us, and he got back in the line and tried to make another tackle and everyone got around it, which was so nice."
McLaughlin said Liam was just "one of the boys" and was thrilled with how he had been accepted by the group. While hesitant initially about getting him involved in rough Central Highlands footy, the coach felt he had a duty to give him a run.
"To see the enjoyment that he gets out of being around the boys and the love for the game, and he knows every single person by name and comes in and shakes everyone's hands and asks how you're going and high-fives ... he's a very nice kid," he said.
Liam may be called on again when Bluff, missing a few key players, take on rivals Blackwater Crushers.
