Round 6 Team of the Week: Derby excels in ANZAC Round

ANZAC Round saw players across all of the teams dig deep, but there were 17 stand-out performers who make up the Round 6 Team of the Week.

Townsville Blackhawks winger Robert Derby really stood up in ANZAC Round with two tries, 253 run metres, one line break and eight tackle breaks, earning himself the Hostplus strong performer nod. 

Sunshine Coast Falcons second rower Jack Gibbons earned himself the Hastings Deering player of the match nod for the feature game with a performance that saw him score one try, assist in one try and make 32 tackles.

 

Each round, Queensland Rugby League recognises the 17 best performers and names the Hostplus Cup Team of the Week, presented by Hostplus. These team selections are based not only on statistical data, but also take on board live and broadcast viewings of the games.

Round 6 Team of the Week

1. Matt Milson - Wynnum Manly Seagulls

The modest Wynnum Manly fullback was electric during his side's win over Northern Pride. Milson, as he put it, scored two tries off the back of excellent team efforts and registered a big 219 run metres, including 40 post-contact. Milson also made one line break, one line break assist and three tackles breaks.

2. Brayden McGrady - Redcliffe Dolphins

The Dolphins dynamo scored two tries, registered 120 run metres, two line breaks, four tackle breaks and 10 tackles during his side's big win over Ipswich Jets. Falcons winger Scott Galeano was also superb for his side with a huge 260 run metres, two line breaks, one try assist and seven tackle breaks; as was Tweed Seagulls flyer Kaleb Ngamanu with two tries, 138 run metres and two line breaks. 

3. Ethan Quai-Ward - Souths Logan Magpies

Quai-Ward, who is signed to the Brisbane Broncos, was excellent in his team's loss to the Falcons. The talented centre registered 203 run metres, one line break, one line break assist, one try assist and two tackle breaks.

4. Young Tonumaipea - Sunshine Coast Falcons 

Tonumaipea was solid for his side in their win against Souths Logan. The 30-year-old scored one try, clocked a huge 250 run metres, made three line breaks, three tackle breaks and eight tackles with 100 per cent tackle efficiency. 

5. Robert Derby - Townsville Blackhawks (C)

The consistent performer for the Blackhawks was excellent in Round 6. Derby scored two tries, registered 253 run metres, including 81 post-contact, one line break and eight tackle breaks. His efforts earned him the Hostplus strong performer nod for Round 6 and skipper duties for this round's Team of the Week. Clydesdales winger Mitch Watson was also good with two tries, 142 run metres, two line breaks, one line break assist, one try assist and three tackle breaks.

6. Connor Williams - Redcliffe Dolphins

The Dolphins No.6 scored two tries, registered 128 run metres, four tackle breaks and 22 tackles. Tweed Seagulls' Will Brimson was also excellent with one try, 106 run metres, one line break, one line break assist, one try assist, five tackle breaks and 20 tackles.

7. Cody Hunter - Redcliffe Dolphins

Hunter was instrumental to his side's 40-12 win over Ipswich Jets during ANZAC Round. He scored two tries, assisted in one try, kicked six from seven conversions, registered 214 run metres, 269 kick metres, one line break, seven tackle breaks and 14 tackles.

8. Max Bailey - Sunshine Coast Falcons

Bailey stepped up in his first minutes of the season for Falcons, making an enormous contribution off the bench on both sides of the ball in a 34-16 victory. Bailey had 162 run metres, one tackle break, two offloads and 36 tackles in an outstanding all-round performance.

9. Tristan Hope - Brisbane Tigers

Hope is really stepping up at the Tigers after joining the club from Wynnum Manly Seagulls. The handy hooker scored one try, assisted in two tries, kicked four from six conversions, registered two line break assists, one tackle break and 43 tackles with 91.49 per cent tackle efficiency.

10. Riley Price - Townsville Blackhawks

Price ran on at prop on his return to the Blackhawks to produce a powerhouse effort. The 21-year-old made 157 run metres and three tackle breaks, while also making 28 tackles without a miss. Other top props for the week included Pride Petterson-Robati, who had 159 run metres and three tackle breaks for Burleigh Bears, and Northern Pride’s Daniel Hindmarsh-Tayki, who was again dynamic off the bench with 154 run metres, three tackle breaks and one offload.

11. Jacob Alick - Burleigh Bears

The Bears second rower, who is signed with Gold Coast Titans, was solid against PNG Hunters during ANZAC Round. Alick scored two tries, assisted in one try, registered 168 run metres, including 55 post-contact, two line breaks, one line break assist, a massive nine tackle breaks and 18 tackles with 100 per cent tackle efficiency.

12. Jack Gibbons - Sunshine Coast Falcons (VC)

The Falcons second rower earned himself the Hastings Deering player of the match nod for his performance in the feature game. Gibbons scored one try, ran for 81 metres, registered one line break, two line break assists, one try assist, three tackle breaks and 32 tackles with 94.12 per cent tackle efficiency.

13. Liam Horne - Norths Devils

The talented 26-year-old, who hails from PNG, was stellar for the Devils during his 61 minutes on the field in ANZAC Round. Horne scored one try, made 101 run metres, one line break, five tackle breaks and 25 tackles with 92.59 per cent tackle efficiency. Brisbane Tigers lock Charlie Murray was also good with three tackles and 34 tackles with a 94.44 per cent tackle efficiency; and Souths Logan lock Cruise Ten registered a whopping 226 run metres.

14. Kierran Moseley - Norths Devils

The Devils hooker, during his 51 minutes on the field, scored one try, assisted in two tries, ran 67 metres, made one line break assist, one tackle break and 19 tackles at 95 per cent tackle efficiency.

15. Melino Fineanganofo - Western Clydesdales

It was a tight content between Western Clydesdales and Brisbane Tigers at the weekend and Fineanganofo did his best to put the Clydesdales on top but his efforts proved not enough. The Clydesdales winger scored two tries, registered 173 run metres, including 54 post-contact, two line breaks, one line break assist and a massive 12 tackle breaks.

16. Luke Polselli - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The Falcons fullback is always exciting to watch and the weekend was no different. Polselli scored one try, assisted in one try, registered 228 run metres, including 39 post-contact, two line breaks, one line break assist and four tackle breaks.

17. Tyson Smoothy - Wynnum Manly Seagulls

Wynnum Manly hooker Tyson Smoothy, who is signed to the Brisbane Broncos, was excellent against Pride with 121 run metres, one try assist, one line break assist, one tackle break and a huge 42 tackles with 93.33 per cent tackle efficiency.
