Statewide score wrap: Dad's tears for kids' amazing A grade feat

There was barely a dry eye in the house after a magical day at Central Highlands club Clermont on Saturday.

The scoreline was flattering - a 70-18 win against a luckless Blackwater Crushers - but it was the fact three brothers, and a teammate who may as well be, all played together for the first time and all crossed for tries that made it particularly special.

Lucas Mohr, William Mohr, Patrick Mohr and Bo King were the celebrated quartet, all who played junior rugby league for Clermont, with Bo's try in the dying stages bringing the house down.

It only clicked for Lucas, the eldest of the quartet, after the game what they had just done.

"It wasn't until somebody said it to me I thought, 'Yeah that's a pretty good achievement'," Mohr, who earned player of the match, said.

"It was a real good feeling to play with all my brothers. I've never played with them before because there's a bit of an age gap. I'm 30, Patrick's the youngest at 21 and the others are somewhere in between.

"It's something we always talked about doing but we've never really made it happen until the weekend."

Will, who once had a stint with the Central Queensland Capras, made the trip from Rockhampton to play this game, while the other brothers have been away for footy and work opportunities and back again since juniors.

The full circle moment was all a bit overwhelming for dad John Mohr, who shed a tear after the game.

"You don't see my old man cry much, hardly ever. He definitely shed a few tears, which is good to see," Mohr said.

"He drove us all around Queensland playing footy, all four of us, so it's good to give a bit back to him too."

Bears A grade coach Justin Barrett has seen them all grow up, coaching the quartet as juniors, and said it was wonderful to see it all come together.

"It was a big thing for me to give them the opportunity to do it, because they're good kids and they mean a lot to the Clermont Bears," he said.

"That's what country rugby league is all about. I'm a big believer in playing for your mates and not letting one another down but there's nothing better than playing with your brothers. You already have that mateship as a brother."

Clermont came from nowhere to win last year's Central Highlands A grade premiership, helping create a groundswell of support that has them in third place at the midway point of the season.

Barrett said the key would be keeping the strong bonds created between players, and with the community.

"Winning the premiership is hard, but backing it up is harder, you've got a target on your back," he said.

"My biggest thing is that mateship and camaraderie and not letting your mate down and that's how we'll get there in the end."

Clermont Bears president Liam McNaughton said it was just another reminder of the bonds of rugby league that bring everyone together.

"Clermont is a really tight community and a lot of them have grown up together, so just watching them week in, week out is good, but when it's brothers and dad was there over-the-moon and crying after the game, it's rewarding for the club," he said.

"It just builds that bond. It's hard in Central Queensland to get regular players and buy-in and get volunteers, so having those connections and storylines gives us a chance to make it happen."

The achievement has only further galvanised the club also getting behind junior player Slater Breckon, who is undergoing invasive treatment in Brisbane after being diagnosed with asplastic anaemia, a serious condition which means the body can't produce enough new blood cells.

McNaughton said the family has had huge volunteer involvement at the Bears and the club would do whatever it could to support or put a smile on the young man's face.

Several members of the club have contributed to a fundraiser to help the Breckons with the challenge ahead, helping raise more than $50,000 in three days.
