BRL preview: Eight teams in the hunt with four rounds left

With four rounds remaining the Bulldogs will be out to maintain their quest for a maiden minor premiership title when they take on Valleys at home from 3.15pm Saturday.

The Diehards are in the all-important top three for the moment and they will both have to improve their defence to stay there, as both sides leaked 26 points in last week’s games.

First versus third in a mouth-watering affair that oozes talent from both sides.

Bulimba has named the mercurial Tommy Butterfield to bolster an already dynamic pack including a pair of Jacks in Miers and Natapu.

For Valleys, what’s better than one Yorston? Two Yorstons. Keenan and Sean are game changers and with Jared ‘Chainsaw’ Chambers ready to carve up out wide, this match of the round may well see both defensive lines tested again.

Either way, the men in blue and white will prevail.

The Magpies have had a week off and will be looking for a strong run home.

Monstered in their last start, it’s all in the hands of the Maggies to show they belong in the top five.

Beenleigh will travel to Brandon Park for the 4.30pm kick off looking to hang onto their fourth place on the ladder.

The Pride will be disappointed with their previous outing against the Bulldogs but have the dynamic duo LJ Waddups and David Quinlin to put things right.

Look for skipper Sam ‘Metre-Eater’ Mataora to do some serious damage early on.

Souths Juniors No.9 Joshua Williams has an imposing forward pack to send up the middle.

Sosefo Filipine, Nesta Meleisea-Watene and Elias Tuitama to name just three that are licensed to cause carnage.

Both clubs need the three competition points if they are to go to the play offs

The Hounds went down after the siren last week against West Brisbane, leaving the game plan simple.

The boys from Bert St Claire will need to win their remaining fixtures. They will host Wynnum Manly Juniors from 4.30pm at Graceville.

The Seagulls went down to the Roosters last week, which has them equal fifth with Brighton in fifth place.

Normanby’s everywhere man fullback Edward Downing-Brown will look to take his outstanding form from last week to the middle this week and with the slick manoeuvres of Jezzy Ioane and Keon Saunders, the Hounds could push the Seagulls out of the five for the first time this season.

The ‘Gulls showed glimpses of their early season form and will rely heavily on their experienced campaigners Justin Smith, Lachlan Lee and Kobe ‘Austin’ Martin to get their season back on track.

The Roosters have come to the party with an end of season onslaught. They have won four in a row and now share fifth spot. They will hoist Carina at Jim Lawrie Oval from 4.30pm.

The Tigers, while not saluting the judge, have pushed their opponents over the past few rounds. Never turn your back on a Tiger.

Brighton have talent across the park. Dilbert Issac has been out of control this season, causing grief with every hit up.

Thomas ‘Braveheart’ McKenzie was equally destructive as has been Gelignite Jordan Atley.

The Tigers will need to tame a side in a rich vein of form, and it won’t surprise if they do.
