The annual Frank Fisher Cup is set to return on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Jack O’Chin Oval, Cherbourg, celebrating the legacy of Frank Fisher and the rich rugby league history within Indigenous communities.

A legendary figure in the game, Frank Fisher was a trailblazer in rugby league, widely regarded as one of the best Indigenous players of his era.

The Frank Fisher Cup continues to honour his contributions, bringing together talented teams and passionate fans for a day filled with exciting footy, cultural pride, and community spirit.

This year’s event promises a vibrant showcase of rugby league talent, with competitive matches highlighting the proud traditions of the local community. Queensland Rugby League CEO Ben Ikin will be in attendance, along with Eddie Monaei OAM.

Monaei was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division for his service to the Indigenous community, particularly through the sport of rugby league.

Rugby league fans can look forward to an exciting lineup of matches, including the highly anticipated Women’s clash between Wide Bay and QPS at 1:30pm and the Men’s feature match between the Frank Fisher Invitational team and QPS at 5:15pm. The event will also feature cultural performances, including a special appearance by the Wakka Wakka Dance Troupe at 5pm, before the main game.

  • 10am – 11:30am: Ration Shed Tour (split into two groups) – 18 Barambah Avenue, Cherbourg
  • 12pm – 1pm: School BBQ with students & QPS – Cherbourg School
  • 1:30pm – 2:30pm: Student activities facilitated by QPS & school staff – Cherbourg School
  • 3pm onwards: QPS check-in – Murgon Motel
  • 4pm – 4:30pm: QPS training run – Murgon Fields
  • 5pm – 6pm: Frank Fisher team training run – Cherbourg Fields
  • 7pm: Event dinner

Saturday, April 5, 2025

  • 9am: Gates open – Cherbourg Fields
  • 10am: U14 Game – Cherbourg v Murgon
  • 11am: U14 Game – Cherbourg v Nanango
  • 12pm: A Grade – Wondai v Kingaroy
  • 1:30pm: Women’s Game – QPS v Wide Bay
  • 3pm: A Grade – Cherbourg v Murgon
  • 5pm: Wakka Wakka Dance Troupe
  • 5:15pm: Men’s Game – Frank Fisher Invitational v QPS
  • 7pm: Presentations & Thank You
