With the 2025 State of Origin series beginning on 1 May, Westpac and Queensland Rugby League have once again joined forces to keep Queenslanders safe. For every try scored by the Maroons in the men’s and women’s competitions in 2025, Westpac will donate $5,000 to the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service in Queensland as part of the ‘Tries for Lives’ initiative.
The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter based at Carrara will also be fitted out with a Maroons decal to demonstrate the Service’s support for the Maroons throughout the Origin series.
Last year, through the same initiative, Westpac donated $80,000 to the Service in Queensland thanks to the efforts of the high-scoring Maroons.
‘Tries for Lives’ is an initiative born from a partnership between Westpac and Queensland Rugby League, which focuses on supporting equal participation for men and women at all levels of the game throughout Queensland.
The ‘Tries for Lives’ commitment was made at the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons’ training camp at Royal Pines on the Gold Coast. Westpac State General Manager for Queensland Greg Crocombe was joined by Maroons stars Lauren Brown, Jess Elliston, Sienna Lofipo and Tarryn Aiken.
Maroons star Lauren Brown said, “Knowing that every try we score is helping fund something as important as the Westpac Rescue Helicopter really hits home. As a firefighter, I know how crucial those services are when lives are on the line. It’s pretty powerful to think our game can make that kind of impact.
It’s pretty special to know that every try we score can help save lives. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work the rescue helicopter does – so to have that support tied into Origin makes it even more meaningful to run out there and give it everything.

Greg Crocombe, State General Manager Queensland, Westpac said, “We’re so proud of our partnerships with Queensland Rugby League and the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service which both play such an important role for our customers and communities across this state. To be able to bring these partnerships together in such a meaningful way during the best time of year is sensational and it gives our team across Queensland even more reason to cheer on the Maroons men’s and women’s teams loudly and proudly in 2025.”
Paul Gibson, Chief Pilot for the Queensland Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service said, “This initiative directly fuels our ability to save lives. Every dollar helps keep our helicopters in the sky, and we’re incredibly grateful to Westpac and Queensland Rugby League for turning Queensland pride into real impact on the ground. We’ll be cheering for every Maroons try—not just for the scoreboard, but for the lives it helps protect.”
