Queensland Rugby League will honour its connection to Indigenous culture through the release of the 2025 Queensland Maroons Indigenous jersey.
This year’s Maroons squad will don the unique jersey – designed by Queensland artist Bianca Beetson – while on the training field before Game I of the State of Origin series.
Beetson is a proud Kabi Kabi and Wiradjuri artist whose work is deeply rooted in identity, heritage, and connection to Country.
As the niece of rugby league great Arthur Beetson, Bianca shares her passion for representing Indigenous stories and strength.
“This jersey embodies the lasting legacy of Arthur Beetson, a powerful symbol of unity and community,” Bianca said.
“Even after his passing, his spirit remains a beacon, drawing people together from all walks of life. On the field, they stand side by side, a vibrant tapestry of backgrounds, all rallying as one proud team - team Queensland.”
“This is not just a celebration of sport; it is reconciliation in action, a testament to the strength found in diversity and togetherness.”
The Indigenous jersey is presented by Deadly Choices and also has the backing of the Arthur Beetson Foundation, which will receive 50 per cent of proceeds from the Maroons Shop to help drive their Indigenous programs.
Arthur Beeston Foundation Director Brad Beetson paid tribute to his late father Arthur.
“We thought it was really important for us as a family to continue what he started,” Brad said in special video tribute.
“His greatest passion in life was rugby league. He loved the game so much and we thought it would be fitting for us to start a Foundation to try and help Indigenous people on the same journey that he started.”
The jersey serves as a tribute to heritage and unity, as well as Arthur Beetson’s enduring legacy.
Born in Roma, Beetson famously captained the first Queensland State of Origin side in 1980.
His influence now extends beyond the field through the Foundation, which supports Indigenous Australians in health, education, sport, employment and business development.
The 2025 Indigenous jersey features an image of Arthur Beetson during his inspirational Maroons campaign and carries the words encapsulating his legacy – Immortal, Queenslander, Legend, Aboriginal, Kubi, FOG and Artie.
His signature is also embedded as a mark of his lasting impact.
