Round 2: Weekend Preview - BMD Premiership

It will be a tale of two perspectives at Totally Workwear Stadium this Sunday, as last year’s premiers seek to amend last weekend’s defeat, while the Brisbane Tigers look to carry on the momentum gained from their impressive Round 1 victory.

The Mackay Cutters are coming to Brisbane fresh off a loss in round one against the Tweed Seagulls.

After starting well against the Tweed, the Cutters fell away after failing to hold possession later into the match, finishing with 45% of possession.

The Cutters just let the Tweed Seagulls have too much ball and the Seagulls did plenty with it.

In addition, missed tackles compounded the pressure experienced by Mackay, as the Seagulls proved clinical with ball in hand.

Cutters’ front rower Sophia Irving was outstanding in defence and kept fronting up to do her workload plus some.

She finished with 25 tackles from her 65 minutes on the field.

The Cutter that will bring the people through the gate is Lyrech Mara.

The Mackay prop was a sensation and scored a great long range try that got the Cutters back to level with 14 to go.

From the first try to Namoe Gesa in the fifth minute to the last try to Kelsey Parkin the Brisbane Tigers oozed professionalism.

Narikah Orchard was in the middle of all of it with runs that made ground and her constant incisions causing the Pride head aches and heart aches.

The second rower was dynamite for the Tigers.

The Tigers back row didn’t stop there with India Seeto constantly threatening with the ball in hand, as well as showing impressive muscle in defence.

The Tigers will be looking to Evelyn Roberts this week to continue her playmaking form, with her pinpoint kicks and ball running providing points en masse.

The Tigers had all the bases covered.
