The two new kids on the block will face off this Sunday, as the upstart Ipswich Jets host the Northern Pride at North Ipswich Reserve.
After two valiant performances ending in defeat, the Northern Pride got off the mark against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls – winning 20-14 for their first ever BMD Premiership victory.
So far this season Kimberley Hunt as emerged as the Pride’s attacking catalyst, scoring 2 tries in her 3 matches and averaging close to 80 run metres a game.
In the halves, it’s been Jairel-Ellen Martin-Savage providing the playmaking, with the halfback coming off a stellar 1 try and 1 try assist performance in her side’s victory last weekend.
Martin-Savage has also proved her defensive chops to begin the year, missing only 2 of her 45 tackles this season.
However, Hunt and Martin-Savage will have their work cut out defending an explosive Jets’ outfit consisting of many damaging ball runners.
Spearheading the Jets attack will be their two young guns, Ella-Jaye Harrison Leaunoa and Pauline To’o.
The two Harvey Norman Queensland Under 19s representatives have been electric to start the season, with the two starlets combining for 3 tries and 4 line breaks in their two games played.
Having played five-eighth for Queensland last month, Harrison-Leaunoa will be lining up at fullback this weekend, presenting a mouth-watering match up as Tongan representative Ana Malupo prepares to play her first game for the Pride this season at fullback.
Another intriguing match up can be seen at hooker, as Pearl Tuitama of the Jets and Nadia Windleborn of the Pride prepare to face off against one another.
Windleborn co-captained the Harvey Norman Queensland Under 19 team, while Tuitama has displayed excellent defensive chops, completing 67 tackles in her three games this season.
With the Jets looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat and the Pride looking to secure back-to-back victories, this Sunday’s match up promises to be a belter.
