Westpac and Queensland Rugby League are proud to announce the success of the 'Tries for Lives' initiative during the 2025 State of Origin series.
For every try scored by the Queensland Maroons men's and Harvey Norman Maroons women's teams, Westpac pledged to donate $5,000 to the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service in the state.
With 15 tries scored across the series by the Maroons, a total of $75,000 will be donated in 2025. The presentation was made today at the Carrara helicopter base by Greg Crocombe, State General Manager, Queensland at Westpac. He was joined by Maroons stars Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and Lauren Brown.
Mr Crocombe said:
“We’re delighted to be making this donation today which will help keep Aussies safe this summer, whether they’re at our beautiful beaches or out in the bush. Well done to the incredible Maroons men and women who crossed that try line and secured this substantial donation – everyone at Westpac was cheering twice as loud for each try knowing what it was worth.”
“The ‘Tries for Lives’ initiative is a powerful reminder of how sport can drive real impact in our communities," said QRL chief executive officer, Ben Ikin.
Every try scored by our men’s and women’s Maroons teams helped contribute to an essential service that saves lives across Queensland. The men showed the true Queensland spirit, bouncing back from a tough Game I loss to win the series in hostile territory. And our Harvey Norman Maroons embodied that same grit and resilience with a stirring win in Newcastle.
Ben Ikin QRL CEO
“We’re proud of what both teams achieved on and off the field, and grateful to Westpac for turning those moments into something even more meaningful for Queenslanders.”
The 'Tries for Lives' initiative underscores Westpac's ongoing commitment to communities across Queensland, whether that’s in the air through the support of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service, or at the grassroots level with Queensland Rugby League.
