Next in Line: Charlie's Origin core memories
When we launched the Next in Line campaign, our goal was simple, to show young Queenslanders that the pathway from grassroots footy to the Maroons inner sanctum is real, and it's waiting for those who dream big. For 11-year-old Charlie Frith, that dream became a reality.
Charlie, a junior footy player from regional Queensland, won a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to step inside the Maroons' world. Alongside his younger brother Harry and mum Angela, Charlie flew to Sydney to attend the Captain’s Run, walk Accor Stadium’s field pre-game, watch the Maroons warm up from the tunnel, and witness the team’s epic Game III victory live.
As Angela shared, “From the moment we got the phone call in the car... to the BEST game of Origin footy with our mighty Maroons taking the series win, there was so much joy and wonder!”
The boys soaked up every moment, from meeting their idols and catching kicks with Alfie, to playing the ball for JT and Tom Dearden.
“It truly was incredibly special,” Charlie wrote in a heartfelt letter.
“I still can’t believe I got to see the Captain’s Run... it was the best!”
Angela reflected, “As a mother, I believe the greatest gifts we can give our children are solid core memories... and boy was this one of those!”
For us at QRL, hearing stories like Charlie’s is exactly why the ‘Next in Line’ initiative matters. This campaign wasn’t just about a competition. It was about connection and reminding every young player in Queensland that the dream is alive.
We’re grateful to Angela, Charlie, and Harry for letting us be part of their Origin story. And to every junior player out there, you could be next.
Because in Queensland, the pathway from backyard footy to the big stage is real. All it takes is passion, persistence, and a love for the game.
