The Brisbane Tigers extend their unbeaten streak to seven games, dismantling the Tweed Seagulls 30-16 at Totally Workwear Stadium.
The Seagulls found themselves on top of the Tigers early, though a first-half double from Courtney Robinson would return momentum to the league leaders.
As was expected, the Tigers forwards led from the front, with young gun India Seeto crossing on the eve of halftime, finishing the match with 10 hit ups, two offloads and 24 completed tackles.
However, it was another Tigers young gun, Aleksandra Tunifai, who stole the show with two tries and 160 metres from her seven runs.
The Tigers will reload this weekend, as they prepare to take on fellow premiership contenders the Norths Devils at Bishop Park this Friday night.
The Souths Logan Magpies continued their pursuit of the Tigers’ leading ladder position as they defeated the Mackay Cutters 28-12 at Davies Park.
After a slow start, the Magpies would score through Ngatokotoru Arakua, to equal the scores at 12-apiece.
In the second half the Magpies would pull away from their opposition, laying on 16 unanswered points, with two of their three second-half tries coming courtesy of April Ngatupuna.
Between Ngatupuna in the middle and Ngatokotoru Arakua on the edge, the Magpies forwards caused bedlam for the Cutters’ defence.
Following their win, the Magpies now sit four points clear of the third-placed Norths Devils and will enter next weekend’s clash against the Falcons as heavy favourites.
The Wynnum Manly Seagulls pulled off an upset at home when they defeated the Western Clydesdales 16-10 at Kitchener Park.
In a tight affair, Seagulls centre Princess Elliot scored the sole try of the first half, being the beneficiary of a beautiful passage of passing initiated by Tayla Sykes.
Elliot would find herself in the action once more for the next Seagulls try, laying on the final pass for Charlotte Vandermeer, who would dive and score to put her side up by four points.
After the Seagulls extended their lead to eight points, Clydesdales fullback Georgia Sim scored a consolation try in the 68th minute, beating two defenders and running the length of the pitch.
After starting the season with two losses, the Northern Pride have won four of the last five matches, returning to Barlow Park to upset a depleted Norths Devils outfit.
Despite being without star back rower, Portia Bourke, the Devils were able to start fast, running out to a 12-4 lead after 20 minutes.
The Pride would return serve on the cusp of half time through Brandy Yallop, finding themselves with a two-point deficit entering the second half.
Opening the second half with intent, the Pride would strike through gun centre and points leader Kimberley Hunt.
The Devils' death knell would come in the 67th minute, as a miracle offload from Sian Williams would send Ana Malupo over for the match-sealing try.
The Sunshine Coast Falcons have outclassed the Central Queensland Capras 34-10 at Rugby Park to snap a two-game losing streak.
The Falcons set the tone early in this bout, scoring on their third play of the match through Georgia Bartlett.
The women from the Sunshine Coast would go on to score 24 unanswered points, staving off a late flurry from the Capras to secure the two competition points.
Star winger Larissa Crummer would finish the match with two tries and no errors in a clinical performance.
The Ipswich Jets showed great resilience to deny the Burleigh Bears victory, upsetting the favourites 24-22.
After Jasmine Morrissey and Bella Thompson combined for a brilliant opening try, Lailee Phillips would further extend the visitor’s lead by pouncing on a distracted Jets defensive line from dummy half.
After conceding three unanswered tries, the Jets would eventually respond via Liliele Vaitolo at the end of the first half.
With 6 minutes left of the second half, the Jets would find themselves down by eight points.
Their unlikely comeback would be initiated by Moira Fetu in the 64th minute, with Vaitolo once more scurrying from dummy-half, this time putting her side ahead with two minutes left on the clock.
After the Bears won back possession from kick-off, a shift right would be foiled by a brilliant defensive effort from Ilaisaane Taufa and Shaniah Lui who secured a famous win for their side.
