Round 9: Weekend Preview - BMD Premiership

The Souths Logan Magpies return to Davies Park in search of their fifth consecutive win, as they prepare to host the twelfth-placed Central Queensland Capras this Sunday.

The Magpies enter this bout following a herculean comeback against the Sunshine Coast Falcons, scoring 24 unanswered points in the second half to claw their way back from a 22-6 deficit at halftime.

Magpies’ fullback Tori Groves Little continues to string together impressive performances, breaking 18 tackles and scoring two tries in her last outing.

Since their sole loss this season against the Tigers, the Magpies have averaged 29 points a game, with Little’s damaging ball running a key contributor to that statistic.

Talent can be found littered throughout the Magpies’ 17, with Sienna Ibrahim, April Ngatupuna, Harlem Walker, Keira Rangi and Amanii Misa all asserting themselves as elite talents so far this season.

2025 has been a completely different story for the Capras, however, with the Central Queenslanders still on the hunt for their first win of the season.

Their sole competition point was gained following a draw with the Tweed Seagulls in Round 6.

Capras’ second-rower Tylah Phillips has emerged as a bright light in an otherwise disappointing season, scoring four tries and assisting two more from the edge this season.

If the Capras are to pull off an almighty upset this weekend, you can count on Tylah Phillips to put in an enormous shift on the edge.

However, the Magpies will be seeing this game as an opportunity to leap to the top of the table, as the league-leading Brisbane Tigers head west for a tough match against the Western Clydesdales.

A win for the Magpies would see them in first position, as they currently hold a superior points differential compared to the Tigers.
