Strong Minds, Strong Bodies: Townsville hosts education session

As part of Queensland Rugby League’s continued collaboration with the Carl Webb Foundation, the two organisations will facilitate a Strong Minds, Strong Bodies community education session in Townsville next week.

The free event, held at Kirwan State High School from 5pm to 6pm on August 27, is designed to assist parents in creating positive change across junior rugby league, with a particular focus on supporting children through enjoyment and alleviating pressure.

The Carl Webb Foundation is also part of the Clear Heads program, which provides the provision for experienced sports trainers to help support concussion reporting at community game days.

A key part of the Townsville session will centre around concussion awareness and the importance of the “if in doubt, sit them out” approach, ensuring players are prioritised not just for today, but for their long-term health and development.

Guests will hear from former Queensland Maroons Origin star Michael Morgan (pictured playing for the Mackay Cutters), who will share insights into his own junior football experiences.

QRL state programs manager Nicole Thomas believes the session will make a strong community impact

“The opportunity to pick up practical tools that can help you support your child’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing is going to be invaluable,” Thomas said.

“We’ll also be sharing strategies that will help create positive sideline experiences and club environments.”

Carl Webb Foundation director of strategy, Balveen Ajimal said: “We are grateful to the QRL for supporting the CWF in our ongoing commitment to honour Carl’s legacy by giving back to rugby league.

“Carl was well known as being the strongest man in rugby league. We want to make sure our young players respect their bodies and their minds and learn how to look after themselves and their team mates while playing the sport they love.”

The evening will include resources for families and a Q&A opportunity, offering parents and guests the chance to gain further insight into the topics that are important to them.

Attendees will go into the draw to win a 2025 signed Maroons State of Origin jersey, signed Origin football and two tickets to the North Queensland Cowboys versus Brisbane Broncos NRL match.
