The Hostplus Cup continues to strengthen its reputation as one of rugby league’s premier competitions, with two major developments confirmed for the 2026 season.
The Redcliffe Dolphins will welcome a new head coach with a championship pedigree, while the Ipswich Jets have secured a marquee signing in a former Queensland Maroon who boasts over 250 elite-level appearances.
Elliott takes the helm at Redcliffe
The Dolphins have confirmed Dave Elliott as their new Hostplus Cup Head Coach, stepping into the role from November 2025 ahead of the 2026 season.
Elliott’s coaching career is already filled with achievements. He guided the Norths Devils to the 2024 Hostplus Cup premiership and was part of the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons coaching staff for the 2025 State of Origin campaign.
Having served as an assistant at Redcliffe, he now takes the next step with a wealth of experience in both club and representative systems.
Speaking about his appointment on redcliffedolphins.com.au, Elliott said the decision to accept the role was an easy one.
“This club has such a proud tradition and I’m excited to be a part of its future. The professionalism of the Dolphins is second to none, and the opportunity to lead this group is something I’m incredibly grateful for,” Elliott said.
Elliott also highlighted the benefits of working closely with the Dolphins’ NRL coaching staff, particularly Head Coach Kristian Woolf.
“The pathways system here is outstanding, and to have that alignment with the NRL program is invaluable for my own development as a coach, but also for our players. I know this squad well, and I’m looking forward to building on the foundations already in place.”
Elliott takes over from Eric Smith, who has accepted an opportunity to coach in the NRL as an assistant coach.
Jets secure Mbye for 2026
The Ipswich Jets have pulled off a recruitment coup with the signing of Moses Mbye.
Mbye brings a decorated career spanning both the NRL and Super League. He has represented Queensland in State of Origin, pulled on the jerseys of the Bulldogs, Tigers and Dragons, and most recently starred for St Helens in the UK.
With more than 250 elite-level appearances and a reputation for leadership and versatility, his addition to the Jets roster is a major statement of intent.
For Ipswich, the recruitment of Mbye provides both immediate impact and invaluable experience for their younger talent coming through the ranks.
His signing further demonstrates the calibre of players the Hostplus Cup continues to attract.
Off the field, Mbye will step into the role of Programs and Development Manager, where he will be responsible for enhancing the football program, ensuring a strong pipeline of talent into the senior grades, and aligning junior football structures with the performance standards and expectations of the senior environment.
Hostplus Cup depth on display
With Elliott stepping into the top job at Redcliffe and Mbye set to don Jets colours, the Hostplus Cup’s standing as a competition of both opportunity and quality is stronger than ever.
These moves ensure that 2026 will be one of the most exciting seasons yet, underpinned by progressive coaching, proven representative players, and the ever-growing depth of Queensland’s pathways system.
