RISE rebel Development Series kicks off across Queensland

Queensland Rugby League’s RISE rebel Development Series will take centre stage over the coming weeks, with carnivals scheduled across the state to showcase the next generation of talent.

The carnivals, presented by rebel, are the culmination of year-long talent development programs delivered by statewide competition clubs.

More than 2300 boys and girls have participated in these programs throughout 2025, with the rebel Development Series providing the opportunity for participants to put their skills to the test in a competitive environment.

The series also provides a platform for coaches to put their own learnings into practice, guiding teams through preparation and match play, while pathway managers from statewide competition clubs oversee the process as the first step in the QRL’s official talent pathway.

Starting this weekend, Development Series events will be hosted in Logan, Redcliffe, Rockhampton, Townsville and Maryborough, with the Maryborough event scheduled for October 4.

QRL’s broad focus on 13-15 year olds ensures a strong foundation for talent development both on and off the field, while beginning the talent identification process post under 15s for junior representative selection.

QRL pathways and performance general manager Glenn Ottaway said the series was a valuable way to extend the learnings gained from RISE player and coach development sessions.

“The strength of this series is that it allows players and coaches to take what they have learnt throughout the program into competitive gameplay,” Ottaway said.

“Kids really flourish in this environment because of the confidence they get from learning the fundamentals of the game, while working with coaches who are driven to evolve and provide the best possible experience.

“Coaches get the opportunity to put a practical application on what they’ve learnt, fromgame-day preparation through to the decision making that comes with the fast-paced nature of gameplay.

“It’s all shaping up to be a fantastic few weeks for participants, who have a uniqueopportunity to interact with people from other areas while they continue their development journey with other likeminded aspirational players and coaches.”
