All roads lead to Kayo Stadium in the Hostplus Cup.
After 23 rounds and three weeks of finals, only the Burleigh Bears and Norths Devils remain in the hunt for the ultimate prize.
Historically, Burleigh has won 11 of the 21 games between these two historic sides, though this season the Bears have defeated the Devils twice.
In their last match-up back in Round 22, the Bears prevailed 30-22 in a controlled performance, with Bears halfback Guy Hamilton dominating with four try assists.
Hamilton was awarded halfback of the year last night at the QRL Awards, and will no doubt be looking to recreate his mid-season heroics at Kayo Stadium.
Though in last week’s preliminary finals it was Burleigh’s back rowers who proved the difference, with Ewan Moore and Adam Christensen causing mayhem on the edges.
Christensen, in particular, has developed a damaging partnership with Guy Hamilton, with the crafty half consistently finding his big man off short balls.
However, Burleigh’s most damaging players can be found on the bench, with the nimble Cole Geyer and bulldozing Takitau Mapapalangi providing a great dynamic once they arrive midway through the game.
For the Devils, their big-game experience was epitomised last weekend in their miracle last-minute victory over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
Despite needing to recoup a four-point deficit with minutes left on the clock, the Devils were able to keep the ball alive while maintaining shape – with Manase Kaho eventually scoring in the corner to win the game for his side.
Five-eighth and club legend, Jack Ahearn, once more stood tall for his side when it mattered, scoring the opening try and keeping the Devils organised and composed throughout the match.
Though Manase Kaho may have stolen the show with his last-minute try, Tony Tumusa on the opposite wing was just as damaging during the preliminary final.
Not that they need any more motivation prior to a Grand Final, but the Devils will be looking to send off legendary forward Kenneath Bromwich with a fairytale ending in what may be his final game before retirement.
No matter the result, Saturday’s Grand Final is poised to be one for the ages.
