BMD Premiership Match Report: Brisbane Tigers 22 def. Burleigh Bears 6

The Brisbane Tigers completed a flawless 2025 season by securing the BMD Premiership title with a 22–6 win over the Burleigh Bears at Kayo Stadium, Redcliffe.

The Tigers went through the season unbeaten, and their grand final display showcased the patience, organisation, and composure that defined their campaign.

It was Burleigh, though, who struck the first blow. In just the fifth minute, Bella Thompson crossed out wide, and with Zara Canfield converting, the Bears grabbed a 6–0 lead.

Captain Teaghan Hartigan steered her side confidently, keeping them composed in the opening exchanges.

But the Tigers, true to their coach Rhett Tronc’s plan, didn’t panic. They built pressure set by set, and eventually cracks appeared. India Seeto broke through in the 20th minute, before Enah Desic powered over six minutes later.

Desic added the extras for both tries, pushing the Tigers ahead. By the 34th minute, Tahlia Marshall had crossed as well, sending Brisbane into halftime with an 18–6 advantage.

The Bears needed to strike first after the break and had their chances. Hartigan rallied her players, and Burleigh pressed strongly through the middle, but key handling errors at critical moments cost them dearly.

Each slip gave the Tigers a reprieve, and their defence stayed watertight.

The decisive moment came in the 61st minute when Marshall crossed for her second. Though Desic couldn’t land the conversion, the 22–6 margin proved unassailable.

With a try, three goals, and steady direction, Desic capped a standout performance, while Marshall’s double reflected Brisbane’s cutting edge.

Despite the defeat, Burleigh showed plenty of spirit. Their fast start and determination to stay in the contest underlined their competitiveness, and Hartigan’s leadership shone through.

But against a Tigers outfit that made almost no mistakes, the Bears couldn’t find a way back.

The Tigers’ victory crowned an extraordinary season. To go undefeated through the regular rounds, finals, and the decider is a rare feat.

Their ability to stay calm, stick to structure, and defend with resolve proved decisive in the 2025 grand final, ensuring their premiership triumph will be remembered as one of the most complete campaigns in BMD Premiership history.
