Queensland Pacific Islands Cultural Carnival returns bigger and bolder in 2025

The youth took centre stage last weekend with the successful staging of Junior QPICC which saw cultural pride on show as well as some great rugby league.

This week, the celebration of Pasifika passion and talent continues with the senior version of the Queensland Pacific Islands Cultural Carnival kicking off for a three-day event that is fully sanctioned by the Queensland Rugby League.

Filling the fields at Bill Norris Oval from Friday, October 31 and wrapping up with the finals matches on Sunday, November 2; this year's QPICC tournament sees teams representing the cultures of Samoa, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, Niue, Fiji, Tonga and Aotearoa Māori all taking part.

This year marks a bold return for the tournament with more Nations taking part, while organisers have also placed a keen focus on providing more opportunities for connection, with an opening blessing to also take place before the first games kick off on Friday.

The traditional Opening Ceremony will be held later in the evening, with all Nations to perform a song, dance, reading or other special performance to showcase and share their culture.

The two tournaments have seen more than 3500 registered participants sign up, with more than 2500 male participants and just under 1000 female participants. There were 1104 Junior QPICC participants registered to take part last week.

QPICC also provides development opportunities outside of playing, including offering a referees course for aspiring match officials from each participating Nation.

Games will be played in the Open Men's, Open Women's, Under 17 Girls, Under 15 Girls, Under 13 Girls, Under 19 Boys, Under 17 Boys, Under 15 Boys and Under 13 Boys divisions.

All games played on Field 1 will be live streamed on the new QPICC YouTube page.
