Since its inception in 2021, the program has been a pillar of strength in the community, with its inclusive approach delivering many positive outcomes in the Central Queensland region.
The Capras are immensely proud of the program, which complements the club’s ongoing participation in the QRL’s male and female statewide competitions.
Initially launched with the hope of fostering fun, friendship, and inclusivity through morning clinics coinciding with Capras’ home games, the program has proven to be a resounding success.
More than 50 players from Rockhampton and Gladstone took the field this year, but the program is set to double in 2026.
Capras CEO Peter White said two junior teams and two senior teams were expected to take the field next year.
“It’s been an incredibly successful period for the program; and to double in numbers in such a short period of times speaks volumes about the impact the Capras are making in the community,” White said.
“The enjoyment on the faces of participants says it all. They get to experience the thrill of the game, just like their Capras idols.”
White also acknowledged the support of the Central Queensland business community, including Reef City Ford, the new naming rights supporter of Capras Community Care.
Glen Sharp, dealer principal of Reef City Ford, said:
“This is the biggest sponsorship Reef City Ford has ever undertaken, and certainly one of the most important. With the generous support of Ford Australia, we’re proud to help deliver real support for grassroots programs that make a difference in the lives of people right across Central Queensland. Giving back to the community that has supported us for decades is at the heart of this commitment.”.
